The Four Rivers Institute firmly believes in the benefits of experiential and adventure based learning. Far too often these programs are not readily available in certain communities that either do not have the resourc
es or expertise to implement them. Our aim is to support our students in assisting these communities. While they are students they will learn the principles of community organizing, fundraising and program implementation. After graduation we are committed to supporting their efforts as a partner and a resource. Due to the circumstances in which many of our students have grown up they will be able to identify with the communities and their members. Research suggests that at risk communities react better to a mentorship model when the mentors share similar backgrounds and experiences.
